FOUNDER
Cynthia Rosers
In November 2000, Cynthia Rosers, a devoted advocate for preserving African-American history, ventured into the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society. Noticing the absence of Newnan’s African-American narratives, she approached the board president, sparking a collaborative vision. This partnership birthed the African American Heritage Committee.
Rosers' journey to trace her genealogical roots had highlighted a pressing need for such services in Coweta County. Driven by this realization and her discoveries, she founded the African American Alliance Inc. with the collaborative efforts of community members and the support of a significant grant. Under her leadership, the Coweta County African American Heritage Museum was established, opening its doors on July 10, 2002. The space is a testament to Rosers' dedication, who, after that, committed herself to celebrating and preserving the rich tapestry of African-American experiences in Newnan and its surrounding areas.

FOUNDER
Bobby Olmstead
A Coweta County native, Bobby Olmstead's spontaneous act in 1999 safeguarded the Farmer Street Cemetery from potential erasure. Noticing construction at the cemetery, Bobby swiftly intervened, establishing the Farmer Street Cemetery Commission.
Growing up near this historically rich African-American site, Bobby recognized its profound significance. His decisive action ensured it didn't face the tragic fate many enslaved African burial grounds did. Partnering with Cynthia Rosers, who founded the African American Heritage Museum and Research Center in Newnan, Bobby showcased the power of community, history, and allies' role in preserving it. The African American Alliance Inc. salutes Mr. Olmstead's dedication, reminding us all of the strength one voice can hold in preserving history.
